Finding Steady Ground
Embracing God’s Presence in the Whirlwinds of Life
Do you ever feel like life is spinning faster than you can keep up? I get it. I sometimes feel it too. When chaos strikes, it seems to unravel so quickly that it leaves us disoriented and unsure which way is up. The pace of our world rarely slows down and we're often left grasping for breath.
These days we’re thrown off kilter by the violence, hatred and ‘blame games’ spewing everywhere. To add to that, we all have our own personal struggles—daily responsibilities, unexpected news, and the weight of our own emotions.
Here's the truth: We can't hold it all together, by ourselves!
The Anchor In Our Storms
When I lean into God’s love, something beautiful happens—His mercy holds me like an anchor securing a ship in a storm. He steadies my flailing heart and when everything around me feels unsettled, He restores my bearings. The waves may still crash. The winds may still howl. Yet the anchor never let's go.
Colossians 1:17 reminds me of this comforting truth:
“He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together” (NLT).
Friend, God isn't just loosely involved in our lives. He's the One who holds every thread, every detail, every fragile piece together. That means when you and I don't know how to steady ourselves, He does, and we can trust Him to do it.
The Reality Of Trials
The truth is: life will always have its seasons of turmoil. Jesus himself told His disciples:
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV).
But let’s not be mistaken! We don't escape life’s storms by following Jesus. Instead, we endure them with God's strength carrying us through. Nothing surprises our Creator. He already knows what lies ahead and He invites us to simply trust.
The Nearness Of His Presence
In those disorienting moments—when we're wrestling with anger, fear, disappointment, uncertainty—we can remember that His presence is not far away. God doesn't stand at a distance waiting for us to pull ourselves together before we approach Him. Instead, He draws near to us in our suffering:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18 NLT).
His spirit lives within us, whispering comfort, reminding us of the truths we forget in our panic.
When the noises become deafening and the distractions endless, sitting quietly in His presence may be the most faithful thing we can do. In the stillness, He re-centers our scattered hearts and minds, reminding us that it was never about being able to hold it all together—it was always about trusting Him. What could this look like for you?
Creating A Rhythm Of Rest
Maybe it's setting aside five minutes before opening your phone in the mornings, to just breathe, read a verse, or whisper a simple prayer. Maybe it's taking a few minutes during lunch to thank Him for being your steady ground. Perhaps it's ending your day in silence, while surrendering to Him the problems you can't resolve.
These small pauses create space for grace. They build holy habits that pull us back from the chaos into calm. They remind us that His strength outlasts our weakness and His mercy holds us firm, even when everything around us feels like it’s part of a whirlwind.
So, today as the rush of life threatens to topple you, remember this: you don't have to hold it all together—He will!
Rest in that truth and let His steadiness become your strength.🙏🏽❤️
